10 Photos of Places People Love!
Every summer, Canadians grab their cameras and join in the fun of Historic Places Days — exploring, snapping, and sharing their favourite historic spots across the country. From coast to coast to coast, the 2025 Photo Contest brought out creativity, curiosity, and a love for the places that make our history come alive. Here’s a look at some of the fantastic entries that caught our eye this year!
Huron Historic Gaol – Huron County, ON

The Huron Historic Gaol in Goderich is such a neat place to visit. Seeing the living conditions and being able to read the stories of those who were in the jail is really interesting and eye opening! Highly recommend visiting!

St. Dunstan’s Basilica – Charlottetown, PEI

St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Charlottetown is stunning inside and outside with fine details to impress and inspire with the High Victorian Gothic Revival style of architecture.

Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park – Waterton Park, AB

Alpine Dreams in Blue. Captured, during the #bluehour the town of Waterton resting quietly at the lake’s edge, framed by rugged peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Established in 1895, the park is Canada’s fourth national park and part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, created in 1932 in partnership with the U.S. Glacier National Park. Today, it remains a sanctuary for wildlife — a place I visit each year.

History is so amazing!

Morrin Centre – Quebec City, QC

Leaskdale Manse National Historic Site – Leaskdale, ON

Who doesn’t love Anne of Green Gables! But, did you know that she [LM Montgomery] lived here in Ontario. She was the Minister’s wife and over half her books were written here at this house. The Leaskdale Church and Manse are a great museum dedicated to LM Montgomery. They have a beautiful bronze statue of her sitting down in the garden. Our tour guide was so informative about her life here in Uxbridge Township.

Halifax Citadel – Halifax, NS

We loved our visit to the @halifaxcitadel last week. You can really feel the history as you walked through it. It was so neat to see. We loved our experience there and we enjoyed the museum too.

Historic Stewart Farm – Surrey, BC

Summer time夏のひと時 Historic Stewart Farm has a beautiful flower garden, as well as this heritage vegetable garden. Both gardens are lovingly maintained by dedicated volunteers (including me ).

“Just to be clear, it’s not me. I’m the one taking the pictures. Recently, a Chinese woman I met through my garden volunteer work asked me, “Michiko, you said photography is your hobby — do you take portraits?” I said, “I’ve hardly ever taken portraits, but I’d like to practice.” She said, “Then let’s go take some!” and let me practice with her. How about some portraits of a middle-aged lady taken by another middle-aged lady? ”
