Garrick Theatre
Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador
2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award (Resilient Historic Places)

Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the Bonavista’s Garrick Theatre is the oldest community theatre in the province – and the most active. Described as a big city venue in the heart of a small town, this historic theatre provides a venue for mainstream and independent film, live music, theatre, public lectures, and special events.
One of the few soft-seat venues on the island that is designing and booking its own program, the Garrick is both a community and commercial building that has managed to evolve through time thanks to the optimism and commitment that is shared by staff, volunteers, sponsors, donors and patrons – those who still fuel the theatre today.
“A great example of a small community working together to do the impossible, demonstrating outstanding resilience.”
