Chez Doris
2024 Governors’ Awards
The National Trust for Canada’s Board of Governors is proud to recognize Chez Doris for the acquisition and use of the Fulford Residence.
Founded in 1977 as a day shelter in Montreal, Chez Doris has become a lifeline for over 1,500 vulnerable women each year, meeting each one in the spirit of inclusion and respect. Today, Chez Doris offers essential services – clothing, financial management, medical care, overnight shelter and various housing solutions, including permanent residences. Their impact on the community is profound.
In May of this year, in an effort to expand its services and preserve a piece of Montreal’s heritage, Chez Doris acquired the historic Fulford House. The house had been vacant since 2021.
This heartwarming project, with its expanding social services, illustrates how heritage conservation is about meeting the needs of today’s communities – not just preserving something that existed in the past. That’s why the National Trust for Canada’s Board of Governors has chosen to honor Chez Doris with a Governors’ Award for the acquisition and renovation of the Fulford Residence.
